Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to harvest seed crops
- Confirm harvest requirements
- Identify work health and safety hazards, assess risks and implement risk controls for the harvesting operation
- Select, use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Identify the environmental impacts of harvesting the crop and take action
- Sample crop for moisture content to assess timing of harvest
- Identify from the harvest strategy or the crop storage plan the hygiene standards for the crop and the paddock
- Prepare the harvesting equipment
- Clean harvesting machinery and other equipmentof pests and other contaminants to maintain crop and paddock hygiene standards
- Assess machinery and equipment for reliability
- Service, adjust and replace parts of machinery and equipment for harvesting conditions
- Dispose of all containers, leftover fluids, waste and debris from the maintenance and servicing work
- Document all maintenance and servicing according to the requirements of the organisation
- Harvest crops
- Follow and complete the harvest strategy for each paddock
- Operate harvesting machinery at speeds to suit crop conditions
- Maintain the hygiene of all surfaces that come into contact with the crop
- Check and adjust the harvester height and other settings
- Take fire prevention measures as described in the harvest strategy
- Complete harvesting operations
- Clean equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, organisational procedures and regulations
- Clean and store attachments and other ancillary equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulations
- Apply insecticides as required by the harvest strategy
- Dispose of all containers, leftover fluids, waste and debris from the maintenance and servicing work
- Move harvesting equipment in compliance with legislation that includes hygiene requirements
- Complete all required records and documentation accurately and promptly
